Dental Access Days is a service organization that connects Chicago area dental care providers to those without access to dental care. We stage one or two day clinics using mobile equipment in temporary settings, in or near the patient's community. Clinic are staffed by professionals that volunteer their time. Dental Access DAys is based in the Chicago area and is a 501(c)3 corporation of Illinois.
The clinic is equipped to perform cleanings, restorations, and extractions. Our providers perform as many of these procedures each patient needs with the goal of restoring the patient's oral health. We do not currently provide root canals or crowns. We do not create or repair dentures. We treat patients on a first come first serve basis. Our providers work in or are retired from Chicago area private practices and are credentialed as Illinois licensed practitioners. DAD can adapt the clinic size to meet the needs of the partnering agency ranging from 30 to 100 patients per clinic.
Local agencies for the poor and disadvantaged partner with Dental Access DAys to help reach the people of most need. Generally, they organize the patients that will attend the clinic, provide the space we will use and lunch for our volunteers. DAD provides the rest and supports the agency wherever additional help is needed.
Patients are asked to sign a document releasing the clinic, practitioners, and facility from legal liability prior to receiving care. Before procedures begin, providers explain the procedure and ask the patient if they wish to proceed. Illinois medical/dental law includes Civil Immunities (745 ILCS 49/) Good Samaritan Act, Section 20. This law protects providers and organizations from lawsuits when providing care charitably.
Dental Access Days is made possible by the generosity of Chicago area dental professionals that volunteer their time and talents. A group of concerned citizens plan coordinate and support their efforts. Our initial equipment was provided by the Giving Hand Foundation from Yadkinville, North Caroina. Recent funding has come from Northfield Community Church, the Chicago Dental Society Foundation, and the Illinois Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. Dental supply firms also support our efforts by donating materials and supplies.
Contact any of the individuals below by email and they will connect you. If there is a particular agency or patient population you wish to help. contact Bill McKinley our clinic coordinator.
